The best months to visit Mauritius are May, June, September and October. These shoulder-season months sit between the humid summer and the cooler winter, so you get warm, dry days, calm seas and noticeably lower prices than the December-to-January peak. If you want our honest pick, September and October are the sweet spot: the lagoon is clear, the whales and dolphins are around the west coast, and the resorts have not yet loaded their festive rates.

Mauritius sits in the southern hemisphere, so the seasons are the reverse of Europe. There are really two: a warm, wet summer and a mild, dry winter.

The island's coasts behave differently, and the wind is the deciding factor:
- The north and west (Grand Baie, Flic en Flac) are sheltered and warm in winter — the safe choice from May to October.
- The east coast (Belle Mare) is stunning but breezier in winter; it shines in summer.
- The south is wilder and more dramatic year-round, better for touring than lazing on a lounger.
When to travel for value
If your dates are flexible, the two shoulder windows — May to June and September to October — are where the value is. You get winter's dry, comfortable weather without peak pricing, and availability at the resorts that sell out over December.

When to avoid, and why it still might be fine
The cyclone season runs January to March. Direct hits are rare and resorts are well prepared, but you may get a few grey, wet days, and it is worth having travel insurance in place. The upside is low-season pricing and warm water — some travellers happily take that trade.
